Essential Oils to Fight Winter Cold & Flu



Cold and flu season is definitely a thing, and we need to know the best ways to fight it. Before resorting to over the counter solutions, why not try some natural remedies? Essential oils are an excellent way to fight off the cold and flu season! They are natural mood boosters and stress relievers. Essential oils can hold many medicinal properties; antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial, astringent, anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, warming, aids circulation, and natural immune system support.

How To Use (please see specific essential oil for proper dosage)

  • Aromatherapy : inhaled or placed on skin

  • Bath Blends: dropped in bath

  • Diffusers: dispenses aroma in the room

  • Hot & Cold Compresses: dropped on compress

  • Steam Inhalation: dropped in hot water bowl

Essential Oils

  1. Frankincense Essential Oil: antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, stress relief

  2. Hot Bath:

  3. 2 drops frankincense essential oil

  4. 2 drops orange essential oil

  5. 1 drop eucalyptus essential oil

  6. Mix all well before getting in

  7. Steam Inhalation: helps relieve congestion

  8. Add several drops in a bowl of hot, steaming water or add the blend above for bath

  9. Place a towel over your head and lean over the bowl to inhale the steam

  10. Repeat throughout the day

  11. Hot or Cold Compress: for congestion relief and headaches

  12. Microwave a dampened washcloth, add several drops

  13. For decongestion needs, add a drop of eucalyptus essential oil as well

  14. For headaches add a few drops of lavender

  15. Place the washcloth on your forehead or chest for fast relief

  16. Oregano Essential Oil: antiviral and antimicrobial

  17. Sublingual Administration: only if you have a top-grade oil

  18. Place a few drops under your tongue for immediate relief

  19. Massage or Diffuser Blend:

  20. 2 drops oregano essential oil

  21. 2 drops rosemary essential oil

  22. 2 drops peppermint essential oil

  23. For a massage blend add 4 tsp of a carrier oil

  24. Eucalyptus Essential Oil: decongestant

  25. Please do not take orally as it can be toxic

  26. Congestion Relief: diffuser, steam inhalation, hot bath, or vaporizer

  28. 2 drops lavender essential oil

  30. Prevent from spreading: diffuse or vaporize

  32. 3 drops tea tree essential oil

  33. Calming Coughs: chest rub

  34. 4 drops eucalyptus essential oil

  35. 2 drops myrrh essential oil

  36. 4 drops cedarwood essential oil

  37. 4 tsp carrier oil

  38. Aching Body Remedy: use in a hot bath, cold compress, or massage

  39. 4 drops eucalyptus essential oil

  40. 2 drops ginger essential oil

  41. 4 drops rosemary essential oil

  42. 4 tsp carrier oil for massage

  43. Tea Tree Essential Oil: antiseptic, antiviral, antimicrobial, natural disinfectant

  44. For Coughs

  45. 8-12 drops on sinuses and neck area (test on skin before)

  46. Diffuser

  47. 4 drops tea tree essential oil

  48. 4 drops eucalyptus essential oil

  49. Disinfectant

  50. 25 drops to 16 oz spray bottle filled with water

  51. Massage

  52. 4 drops tea tree essential oil

  53. 4 drops bergamot essential oil

  54. 2 drops black pepper essential oil

  55. 4 tsp carrier oil

  56. Massage on chest and soles of the feet

  57. Lemon Essential Oil: antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory (citrus based oils are phototoxic so avoid sunlight when using externally)

  58. Fighting Fatigue

  59. Diffuser or massage blend

  60. 4 drops lemon essential oil

  61. 4 drops myrtle essential oil

  62. 2 drops manuka essential oil

  63. 4 tsp carrier oil

  65. 4 drops lemon essential oil

  66. 4 drops tea tree essential oil

  67. 4 drops lavender essential oil

  68. 4 tsp carrier oil for massage

  69. Lavender Essential Oil: promotes relaxation, natural pain reliever, treats insomnia

  70. Congestion Relief

  71. Apply several drops on chest, sinus, neck and back

  72. Massage Blend

  77. Sleep Aid and Decongestant: diffuser

  82. Easing Nausea: inhale from tissue or us massage/diffuser blend

  87. Sore Muscle Relief

  88. 2 drops peppermint essential oil

  92. Hot or Cold Compress

  94. 2 drops yarrow essential oil

  95. Add 1 tsp carrier oil if it is too strong

  96. Steam Inhalation

  101. For Chills

  105. 4 tsp carrier oil

  106. Nausea Relief: vaporize

  107. 2 drops ginger essential oil 4 drops peppermint essential oil

  109. Warm Bath

  110. 2 drops ginger essential oil

  111. 3 drops cardamom essential oil

  112. Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil: digestive help, increase circulation, immune support, anesthetic, antiseptic, antimicrobial, antioxidant

  113. Circulation Improvement : bath or massage

  114. 3 drops cinnamon leaf essential oil

  115. 4 drops ginger essential oil

  116. 4 drops lavender essential oil

  117. 4 tsp carrier oil for massage

  118. Nausea Relief: bath, massage, steam inhalation, diffuser

  125. 2 drops on the bottom of each foot before bed

  126. Diffuser

  127. 2 drops Thieves essential oil

  128. 2 drops grapefruit essential oil

  129. Sore Throat Relief

  130. 1-3 drops with warm water

  131. Mix and gargle

  132. Massage

  133. Rub on chest and throat for relief
